This was kind of a different Get Fit Over 40 Video Request since it was in regards to "Fitness for Kids", and isn't this a fitness for people over 40 resource? Well the truth of the matter is that fitness and health is not as age related as some might think. The fundamentals of fitness an health are really all the same, the only difference is that as we get older, our lifestyles change a bit (time restrictions and reordering of priorities) and there can be physical limitations that will change some aspects of how we do fitness.

With that said I received this email Video Request:

It's the same kid (suppafx) who commented about the "videos for kids" on your Fitbit giveaway. This is something I would really love to see specially dedicated to our age group (13-15). I have never seemed to find videos for kids like me. (I'm a 14 year old guy). Can you BUILD Muscle and BURN Fat at the Same Time!?! The TRUTH

[SUBSCRIBE TO THIS CHANNEL] MASS AND STRENGTH PROGRAM] MY FACEBOOK ARMY] You Build Muscle and Lose Fat at the Same Time? THE TRUTH

No you can't. I mean build a lot of muscle and lose a lot of fat at the same time. It just won't happen for most people. Unless you are an absolute beginner or have wicked genetics or use something you buy in Mexico. You are going to end up as a jack of all trades and a master of none. And thats not fun.

Look, we all want results really fast. I understand that. But understand that whatever your goal is, it'll take way longer than you think. For most people, they would like to add some muscle and lose some weight. Heres my honest advice:

Unless your titties giggle when you jump up and down, you should gain some size first. Because with more muscle your metabolism is faster, you are more efficient at lifts so you can burn more calories and you'll look better when you are leaner.

Its easier to lose fat with more muscle. HOWEVER, lets be clear I'm not talking about bulking and then cutting, because bulking implies gaining fat with muscle. I prefer you to have lean gains in size and then

shed off that access blubber.

I recommend a minimum 16 week block for gaining size. If you are happy with the results you can then do a fat loss phase, in 12 weeks you could lose about 6-8% bodyfat. For most however, I'd recommend 1 year of training for size and then reduce your bodyfat.

If I was to take my beginner self again, thats what I would do. And instead of taking over 18 months for these results it would take about one year.

So to be clear, for everyone that asks me "how do I lose fat and gain muscle at the same time" Gain SIZE first.

And to make this video useful, here are some quick retard friendly tips on keeping it lean while gaining size.

1. Track your calories: If you find yourself gaining fat while gaining muscle, you are eating too much and the wrong macros. Log your food on a website like www.myfitnesspal.com to find out WHAT you are eating.

2. Keep Active: Its a myth that cardio or other forms of exercise will halt you from gaining muscle. Play a sport, do 10 minutes of High Intensity Cardio a couple times a week, something to use an potential extra calories you might consume.

3. Have a control day: If you really busted it up eating a lot of food, shutting down a sushi place over the weekend, take one day as a control day. For the day after a big splurge, only consume 1.5 gram per pound of bodyweight of protein, 0.5 a gram of fat per pound of bodyweight and no carbs. It'll help you flush out the excess calories you consumed.

Proper Daily Calories To Build Muscle

How Many Calories To Gain Muscle Per a doubt, daily calorie intake is the most important dietary factor of all when it comes to your muscle building diet. If you don’t eat the proper number of calories to build muscle each day, your gains will either be far below your potential or complete non-existent.

The goal when calculating your individual daily calories to gain muscle is to create a small “calorie surplus” to provide your body with the extra energy needed to build muscle, but without going overboard so that fat gains can be kept to a minimum.

Here are the 4 steps I recommend following to calculate how many calories to gain weight per day you require…

Proper Calorie Intake To Build Muscle:

#1 – Find your calorie maintenance level, which is the number of calories you need per day to maintain your current weight. To do this, just multiply your body weight in pounds by 14-16, selecting the higher or lower end depending on your daily activity level.

#2 – Add 250-350 on top of your maintenance level. This will land you on the proper range of calories to build muscle per day. It’s large enough to build muscle effectively but small enough that fat gains will be kept under control.

#3 – Monitor your changes in body weight and adjust your calorie intake up or down if necessary. The numbers you just calculated should be thought of as an “educated guess”, because you simply can’t know for sure *exactly* how many calories to gain muscle you require.

So, if you’re a beginner and are gaining much less than 2 pounds per month, you’ll want to increase your calorie intake, and if you’re gaining much more than 3 pounds per month, dial them back slightly.

For every year of proper training/eating you have under your belt, that 2-3 pound per month figure should decrease by about half.

#4 – Whenever your weight gain stalls for a period of 2 weeks, increase your daily calorie intake by 100-150 to keep the process moving along.

So, if you’re trying to structure your bodybuilding diet properly then those are the 4 steps to follow to calculate your daily calories to gain muscle.

Don’t ignore this basic principle because it is by far the most crucial factor of your muscle building diet. You can put as much effort into the gym as you want, but if you aren’t eating the proper number of calories to gain weight consistently, you’ll be completely wasting your time altogether.

Weight loss at 40 | Fitness Friday | Cate Trunnell

If you're over 40 you probably know that weight loss at 40 can be difficult. I've been eating (mostly/somewhat) healthy and exercising but it's not getting me to where I want to be. I evaluated my lifestyle and came up with a weight loss plan so I can get back in shape over 40. I'm going to post update videos every other Friday and call them Fitness Friday to give me extra weight loss motivation and hopefully motivate others.
